Repentance Forgiveness and Salvation
Divine Forgiveness
The Old Testament describes God as "merciful and forgiving" (Daniel 9:9) for those who sincerely repent and seek His pardon.
Grace and mercy are fundamental to the concept of forgiveness.
Grace is God's unmerited favor and love.
Mercy is God's compassion and forgiveness towards sinners.
Forgiveness is important because our salvation depends on it.
The New Testament emphasizes the forgiveness of sins through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross for reconciliation between God and humanity.
Jesus Christ taught about God's forgiveness through the Parable of the Prodigal Son, illustrating His eagerness to welcome back those who repent.
Jesus also illustrates in the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant in Matthew 18:23-35 the importance of extending mercy to others as God has forgiven us.
Human Forgiveness
Forgiveness is the act of pardoning someone for a wrong they have committed and the resulting consequence of their actions, both in the eyes of God and in human relationships.
Fundamentally, it is a transformative process that requires repentance and a willingness to let go of resentment and bitterness that reflects God's own love and mercy
Human forgiveness is extended between individuals and is a necessary component of reconciliation and healing.
Luke 17:3-4 illustrates the importance of forgiveness, stating, "If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him."
We need to recognize our guilt, repent of our sin and by faith, receive salvation.
Salvation is our ultimate goal because it represents deliverance from the negative consequences of sin that affect us now and in the afterlife.
Reconciliation with God and eternal life is accomplished by the Grace of God through the Power of the Holy Spirit.
Salvation gives life a sense of purpose through a connection with God and His Divine Blessings of Divine Favor and Grace.
In Christianity, Divine Salvation is associated with faith in Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice on the Cross ultimately leading to eternal life.

A Wonderful Life is a heart-warming, 1950 black-and-white short film produced by the National Council of Churches of Christ and distributed by the Protestant Film Commission.
For those who are interested, A Wonderful Life can be viewed on You Tube.
A Wonderful Life is an adaptation of Frank Capra's 1946 film, It's a Wonderful Life starring James Stewart and Donna Reed.
A Wonderful Life was directed by William Beaudine and stars James Dunn, Allene Roberts, Arthur Shields Jack Larson.
The film tells the life of an ordinary, hard-working, Christian, family man after his unexpected death as family and friends gather to reminisce about his life, seen in flashback showcasing his selfless devotion to family, church and community.
Henry Wood (played by Oscar winner, James Dunn from "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" - 1945) was a God-fearing Christian who loved his family, his home and served his community in various projects as treasurer for no pay in the fictional town of Martinville, Missouri.
Henry also loved his garden and felt that helping things to grow made him feel close to God.
Yet, it isn't until his passing that the community realized what a real treasure he was through giving to the needy, donating most of his money to charity and serving his community throughout his life.
The story begins with the town pastor saying that the people of Martinville discovered how important a man is, after he has died.
On the morning of Henry Wood's funeral, townsfolk reminisce how they took him for granted and acknowledge that they buried the best man who lived in their town.
His family considered him as someone who is easily taken advantage of.
His daughter, Mary, reflects on his past and ponders that age-old question, did he indeed have such "a wonderful life"?
She is bitter about the way he never received remuneration for serving as treasurer in a host of committees while Henry's family struggled financially.
She wonders whether people took advantage of her father's goodness.
All his life, he gave, but now that he has died, what has he left behind to show>
Why did he have to give so much away?
The film ends with a prayer of faith hope and love with the pastor proclaiming, "Remembering always that whoever will be great among us must become a servant of all". Amen!
"Whoever will be great among us must become a servant of all" means that true greatness in the spiritual context, is found not in power or status, but in selfless service to others emphasizing humility and sacrifice that is a core teaching in Christianity, where Jesus Christ is presented as the ultimate example of a Servant.

The short, 1945 film, Star in the Night, deals with a modern retelling of the Nativity Story while adding some elements from A Christmas Carol to it.
This short film can be viewed on You Tube.
It's Christmas Eve in the Southwestern United States and three cowboys are riding across a lonely desert with gifts for no particular recipient when they see a distant bright light, which they ride to investigate.
The bright star is actually a second-hand star the Italian-American, Nick Catapoli, bought to attract customers for his little motel, the Star Auto Court in the desert.
A hitchhiker appears at Nick's motel wanting to come in for a little while from the cold and hopes to be offered a coffee.
Nick and the hitchhiker have a discussion about Christmas.
Each have a different opinion of what the festive celebration means.
While the hitchhiker tries to explain the true meaning of Christmas with love, goodwill and brotherhood, Nick opposes the festive season saying that people behave badly during most of the year, but then try to behave in a fake-friendly way at Christmas.
A young Mexican-American couple, Jose and Maria Santos also arrive at the motel to find there are no rooms available.
Nick's wife, Rosa, accommodates them in a small shed next to the hotel as Maria is expecting a baby and is in a critical condition.
When the motel lodgers find out about Maria's approaching birth they forget their selfishness and try to help her.
After the successful birth, the three cowboys appear at the motel and give their presents to the child.
Nick finally learns that there is still goodness in the world and is now positive about the spirit of Christmas.
He gives the hitchhiker a cup of coffee and his coat and wishes him "Merry Christmas" as he leaves.
When Nick glances on the wall calendar and sees the date, 24 December, Christmas Eve, he realizes how much the birth of a child in his shed resembles, the Nativity Story with all his guests surrounding the mother and her child making Nick cry.
In the spiritual sense, the beauty of Christmas with its message of goodwill, spreads kindness and generosity to all people.
